OIC GREEN JOBS TRAINING PROGRAM

Energy Training Partnership

The “Energy Training Partnership” program provides updated skills and certifications for unemployed and underemployed roofers, electricians, and construction workers; as well as women, minorities and other job seekers. This project will train targeted participants in the energy efficiency and solar energy industries. Energy Training Partnership pairs seven weeks (200 hours) of technical and basic education at Atlantic Technical Center with three weeks of employability skills training at OIC of Broward County. 

PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY

  • You must be 18 years or older

  • All applicants must be available and eligible to legally work in the U.S.

  • You must live at a residential address in Broward County and be a Florida resident for a minimum of 12 months.

  • Minimum education requirements for the jobs we are training for are a 10th grade reading and math level. You must either show proof of GED, High School Diploma, Associates Degree or higher, approved State Certifications, or you must take a TABE test (test of adult basic education). Students who cannot show proof of GED or higher after the first 2 weeks of class must concurrently enroll in a GED prep class or TABE remediation class.

  • All men born after 12/31/59 must be registered for selective service to be eligible for DOL services, or show documentation why they were exempt. If you are18-25 and not registered you need to register at www.sss.gov before you can be enrolled. (exception: is if you became a U.S. citizen after age 25, you are exempt. If you are exempt because you became a citizen after age 25, documentation needs to be provided, copied, and kept in your OIC file.)

  • Disqualifying Criminal Offenses: due to the nature of the jobs we are training for, any violent criminal offense against another person will disqualify an applicant from the program.

STAGES OF THE PROGRAM

Stage 1: Intake (includes application process, open house, TABE testing, orientation)
Stage 2: Three weeks of “Employability Skills” Training at OIC of Broward County      
Stage 3: Seven weeks (200 hours) of “Technical Training” at Atlantic Technical Center (Limited evening classes may be available; online remediation class may also be required for basic reading and/or math)       
Stage 4: Job Placement Assistance
