Learn about Leon H. Sullivan
OIC was started when Rev. Leon Sullivan and 400 Baptist ministers began a program of "Selective Patronage" with their congregations. It was a silent revolution that made industries take notice and create the change needed to get people jobs. The premise was simple...Don't buy where you can't work! This opened many doors for people however they needed the training to keep the jobs that were now being offered to them. The Opportunities Industrialization Center was born out of this need for training in an old rundown jailhouse and continues today with 44 affiliates throughout the United States and 18 internationally.

Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) of South Florida is a community-based workforce, job development and training center that focuses on the unemployed and underemployed, the unskilled or insufficiently skilled and those with barriers to self-sufficiency due to past indiscretions in their background. Our goal is give everyone the opportunity to realize their potential; to offer a "Hand UP" not a hand out.
OIC of Broward County was reestablished in 2001 and has provided services to the Broward County community serving almost 4,500 adults and youth per year. Recently expanded throughout South Florida, OIC will be doing business as OIC of South Florida. The mission of OIC of South Florida is to be the community-based leader in providing quality self-help skills and employment opportunities for disadvantaged and underemployed residents, thus assisting them to become self-sufficient and productive members of society.
We offer programs and services that provide you with the skills you need to not just find a job, but to keep a job.
